This season's Richardson Cup final was between Polytechnic and Bon Accord, the match being played at Grangemouth. On the last occasion when these teams met in the final, Polytechnic won 7.5-0.5. There was no chance of a repeat, with Bon Accord fielding a much stronger team and Polytechnic missing nearly all of its best players. Even so, the 1-7 defeat was a huge disappointment.
