Centenary Quickplay - 26/9/2019
The Glasgow Polytechnic Centenary Quickplay was held on the 100th anniversary of the first meeting of the club almost exactly to the day. Forty-nine players registered, a record attendance. Andy Howie, ably assisted by Karen Howie, controlled and arbited.
On display was an original stained glass artwork designed and created by member Julien Papillon. Each of the 100 chess pieces record a year in the club’s history, and the gold king represents the year Glasgow Poly were the first Scottish Club to win the prestigious British National Club Championship in July 1988.
First, second and third prizes were awarded, as well as 2 grading prizes. The cut off for the grading prizes was based on the registered players grades so that everyone had something to aim at.
