Duncan Campbell always organises and produces an excellent chess event hosted at the Royal Hotel in Oban. Apart from the chess, there is an excellent quiz night on the Saturday in the bar of the Royal.
Oban itself is a wonderful location, for walking, excellent cuisine, and of course the chess.
The Chess Congress attracts contestants from all over Scotland and beyond - such as York, this year. The event is not just about chess - it is a time to catch up with friends that one has come to know from other tournaments.
Many thanks to Duncan, and his many helpers for making this event possible, and of course the Oban business community.
The Polytechnic was represented by Robert Gibb, Gilbert Alomenu, and myself - Andy Heron. Robert and Gilbert played up in the Challengers, and I played in the Minor. We all enjoyed the tournament.
P.S. Robert has insisted that this blog post also note that I won a share of the grading prize in the Minor....
