On 10 November, GM John Shaw demonstrated some of his Olympiad games (including his brief but fascinating encounter with Hikaru Nakamura), engaging the audience with questions and answers.
Roland Fraser summed it up very well:
"Thank you ... for organising the lecture by GM John Shaw last night I really enjoyed it. The games discussed gave a lot of food for thought and were of special interest to me as they featured openings that while not identical were similar to what I play. The tactics and attacking ideas were discussed in a way that made sense. John has a good manner and a knack for breaking things down into to understandable chunks. As the lecture had something for lots of different levels there were parts that went over my head but that was more my head's fault rather than John's. The interactive element was very helpful and John showed a lot of patience and understanding while answering questions."
