Polytechnic C.C. is justly proud of the fact that all three Scottish champions are members of that club. Just about six months ago we recorded the decision of the "Poly" to admit the membership of boys as well as ladies, and that their roll included a husband and wife and a mother and son, which is unique so far as Scotland is concerned. The latter two are Mrs W. Thomson, lady champion of Scotland, and her son, Master Aird Thomson, boy champion of Scotland, which is another unique combination. Fairhurst the new champion, is also a member and player for Polytechnic....

William Albert Fairhurst was born in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, England. In 1931 he went to live in Scotland and won the Scottish Championship the 11 times he competed; 1932, 1932-33, 1933-34, 1935-36, 1936-37, 1938, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1962. He was awarded the IM title in 1951.
