Death Announcement

Ken Stewart

The club is deeply sorry to report that our President, Ken Stewart died on Saturday 17th November. He was hill walking and suffered a sudden and fatal cardiac arrest.

Ken was not only President of Glasgow Polytechnic, he was a major contributor to chess in Scotland. He became an International Arbiter in 1984 and was the current Arbiter & Rules Director for Chess Scotland.

Over decades he was a player of formidable strength with many exciting wins. Ken was a very modest, patient, gentleman who freely gave of his time, support and expert advice to all who asked.

All of you that were at the club on last Thursday will have seen him in his usual organisational mode - setting out equipment, arranging players and totally unselfishly only settling down to play a game himself when everyone else was sorted out.

Ken was held in utmost respect by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
